Biography
Kimberly Colburn is a dramaturg and producer, legally able to work in both the US and Canada. Currently she runs an events company specializing in professional development workshops, team-building games, and dramaturgically-enhanced events, in addition to theatre freelance work. She plans and dramaturgs for the annual South Carolina New Play Festival and has other projects in development. Previously, she was Senior Producer with Soulpepper Theatre in Toronto, and was South Coast Rep's literary director, co-director of PPF and led the theatre’s CrossRoads initiative. During the pandemic, she worked with Fatuma Adar on the musical Dixon Road, with Kareem Fahmy on A Distinct Society, with Sarah Wilson and Mike Ross on the musical Rose, and with Jennifer Barclay on Yellowstone and the promenade party play Bacchanal. In the before times, dramaturgical highlights included the world premiere productions of Poor Yella Rednecks by Qui Nguyen, A Doll’s House Part 2 by Lucas Hnath and Little Black Shadows by Kemp Powers. Prior to SCR, she was literary manager at Actors Theatre of Louisville, where she was dramaturg for the world premieres of Partners by Dorothy Fortenberry and The Roommate by Jen Silverman, among others. Other world premiere projects include José Cruz González’s The Long Road Today, Matthew Lopez’s Zoey’s Perfect Wedding, Zoe Kazan’s Trudy and Max in Love and A Wrinkle in Time adapted by John Glore, among dozens of other productions, workshops and readings. She has worked with companies including Los Angeles Opera, Mixed Blood Theatre, Oregon Contemporary Theatre, Critical Mass Ensemble, Artists at Play and Native Voices at the Autry.
