The University of Central Oklahoma Department of Theatre Arts invites applications for a tenure-track position in acting/directing. This position includes academic, artistic, and service responsibilities in a theatre arts department offering B.F.A. degrees in Theatre Performance, Design and Technology, and Theatre Education/Communication. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate course work in acting, directing, dramatic literature, and introduction to theatre. Artistic responsibilities include directing a minimum of one theatre production each academic year and creating additional performance opportunities for Theatre Arts students. The position also requires service commitments to the university, college, department, and professional organizations; participation in shared governance of the theatre department; the recruitment, retention, and mentorship of undergraduate students; and active participation in the advancement of the UCO Department of Theatre Arts. Finally, the successful applicant will demonstrate excellence in teaching and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students. Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.

Teaching

Teach twelve credit hours each semester including courses in acting, directing, dramatic literature, introduction to theatre, and other courses as assigned.

Develop curriculum, including an undergraduate course in directing.

Direct a minimum of one theatre production each academic year and create additional performance opportunities for Theatre Arts students.

Supervise and mentor students working on assistant directing, dramaturgy, and capstone projects.

Research/Creative/Scholarly Activity

Engage in professional activity in area of specialization at local, regional, and/or national level.

Participate in UCO Theatre Arts outreach projects, including work with local schools, colleges, organizations, community and/or professional theatres.

Service

Service commitments to the university, college, department, and professional organizations.

Active participation in the UCO Theatre Arts recruitment and retention plan.

Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). **NOTE** If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to TT-Instructor.

M.F.A. in Acting or Directing.

Minimum Of Three Years University Teaching Experience.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching acting and directing,

Demonstrated professional experience in acting and directing.

Demonstrated experience in student mentorship, recruitment, and retention.

Certification and/or specialization in a recognized acting and/or movement technique.

Reports to the Chair of the Department and the Dean of the College.

Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
