Assistant Professor of Theatre, Mary Baldwin University

Mary Baldwin University's Department of Theatre invites applications for an assistant professor of theatre, a fixed-term, full-time position beginning July 1, 2019. This position requires a theatre generalist with experience in devising and directing, and an interest in areas of technical production. A focus on contemporary, non-Western drama, devised work, and dramaturgy is desirable, as well as a demonstrated ability to engage with Mary Baldwin’s highly diverse student body. We seek candidates who are passionate collaborators, dedicated recruiters, and are committed to working alongside faculty and students in the performing and visual arts to develop and deliver the department’s core competencies and the University’s central mission. We particularly seek and encourage applications from minorities, women, and persons with disabilities. The appointment may include graduate instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include teaching, devising, and directing in the undergraduate theatre department; possible teaching and supervision at the graduate level; participation on departmental, college, and university level committees; advising, recruitment, programming, and assigned departmental duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have professional experience as a theatre maker as well as teaching experience at the university level with diverse student bodies. An MFA or PhD in Theatre is required. A broad knowledge of core theatrical disciplines is desirable as well as a demonstrable interest in non-Western forms of drama and performance. The candidate should have strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising and recruiting, a vision for new program development, and a promising record of professional work.
