Regional Activities
LMDA regional activities have been offering space for communal gathering, building shared resources, and creating networking opportunities. Regional and international dramaturgs, and dramaturg-adjacent folx have been convening in-person and on Zoom to develop new channels for dramaturgical connectivity! Activities include:
Bay Area Microturgy
LMDA’s long-time partnership with foolsFURY continues with a brand-new art form we call Microturgy. We have international dramaturgs who each have been paired with an ensemble company to converse and create Word Clouds in response to the artists’ Art Shares, to be presented during the BUILD from Here convening. Microturgs conversed with the artists and created Word Clouds in response to their work.
Philly Meetups
Typically offered monthly, Philly meetups have been offering a space for communal gathering, building shared resources, and creating networking opportunities. Dramaturgs from the Philadelphia region have been gathering on zoom to develop and foster new channels for dramaturgical connectivity. Some exciting developments include a database of local dramaturgs to share with local producing companies, and a BIPOC affinity space for local folks to 'meet & greet' and share experiences and practices towards the advancement of our field.
Speed Dramaturgy
Both Metro Chicago and Southwest regions have offered Speed-Dramaturgy for Playwrights: Free script consulting with experienced dramaturgs in short, 15 minute, sessions to work on specific issues with their plays or on craft. This gives playwrights a chance to meet and work with dramaturgs they may wish to hire in the future. Dramaturgs meet playwrights, which lays the foundation for future collaborations and consulting. Non-Member Dramaturgs can participate, which may increase membership in the future. They also sit in on sessions with any of the five other consulting dramaturgs. A networking session for playwrights will follow.
Mountain West “For The Love of Dramaturgy”
For The Love of Dramaturgy: The annual Mountain West Valentine's Day event celebrates love, dramaturgy, and our dearest friends in the Mountain West region and beyond! We gather with regional dramaturgs and dramaturg-adjacent folks to find connection through our mutual love of dramaturgy!
Happy Hour
Every region at some point or another has organized a Happy Hour either in-person or on Zoom. LMDA Regional VPs have access to the org’s Zoom account and agency to schedule meetings on it for their regions.
