Biography
Barbara Hort, Ph.D., has maintained a private practice in Portland, Oregon for over 30 years, working primarily from the psychological perspective developed by the Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung.

At the invitation of Chris Coleman (currently the Artistic Director at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts), Dr. Hort has served as the psychodramaturg on productions of Sweeney Todd, Clybourne Park, the 2013 JAW festival, Fiddler on the Roof, Othello, Dreamgirls, Threesome, Three Days of Rain, Ain’t Misbehavin’, A Streetcar Named Desire, Astoria: Parts One and Two, Constellations, Fun Home, and Major Barbara (Portland Center Stage), and Oklahoma!, Anna Karenina, Doll's House and Doll's House Part 2, and Twelfth Night (Denver Center for the Performing Arts), providing material on the psychological dynamics of the play that can be used by the artists who are creating the production.

In addition, Dr. Hort has served on the faculties of Reed College in Portland, Oregon and Washington State University in Vancouver, Washington. She has published numerous academic research articles in the fields of social and developmental psychology, and she is also the author of Unholy Hungers: Encountering the Psychic Vampire in Ourselves and Others (Boston: Shambhala, 1996).
