Biography
Mieko works as a freelance actor, writer, director and dramaturg and is Associate Artistic Director at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton Canada. She is also the co-founder and a current Artistic Associate at Concrete Theatre, where she has held various artistic leadership roles for 31years. Her plays for children, teens and adults are produced across Canada and internationally and have been recognized with the Carol Bolt Prize, Betty Awards and a Governor General’s Award nomination as well as translated into six languages. Her directing and dramaturgy work has taken her from coast to coast of Canada. Recently completed and upcoming projects include directing A Brimful of Asha for the Citadel, co-directing and co-dramaturging a national tour of Songs My Mother Never Sung Me for Concrete Theatre, co-creating and directing Alberta Kitchen Party for Alberta Theatre Projects, dramaturging and directing Parts + Labour for Field Work Theatre, co-directing The Nest for Nightswimming, dramaturging The Fiancee for the Citadel, directing Pride and Prejudice for the Citadel and directing the premiere of her new play Burning Mom at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre.
