Join us as we investigate and document the increasing prominence of dramaturgy-driven projects and ways in which dramaturgs are expanding and fusing their roles in American theatre.
The symposium will bring a panel discussion centering on specific experiences and case studies which have explored new ways of considering the role of the dramaturg in the contemporary theatre landscape.
This will be an important event for reflection on our practices and projects already done, as well as a way to generate new ideas for the future of the dramaturg and dramaturgy. We hope to see you there!
*Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to postpone the afternoon pitching portion of the event. However, we're already looking for a time to reschedule post-summer. Check back here for updates and more details.
About Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas
Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA) was founded in 1985 as the volunteer membership organization for the professions of literary management and dramaturgy. LMDA holds the belief that theater is a vital art form that has the power to nourish, educate, and transform individuals and their communities and that dramaturgy is central to the process of theater-making.
LMDA is committed to:
· affirming, supporting, and broadening the roles that literary managers and dramaturgs play in the theater
· promoting the exchange of information about the function, practice, and value of literary management and dramaturgy
· encouraging cooperation among the practitioners and theoreticians of dramaturgy
· expanding the boundaries of the field and enrich our conversation about the making of live performance by welcoming colleagues from disciplines such as dance, opera, and performance art
