About the Position
The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Education Programs Manager to support the planning and execution of ASF educational initiatives and family programs. This role will assist in creating engaging experiences that promote Alabama Shakespeare Festival’s mission to educate, entertain, and inspire.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage weekly operations and logistics of ASF’s after-school Acting Academy classes (including check-in, PU/DO, participant rosters, space checks, etc.)
- Assist in the development, coordination, and implementation of all other educational programs, workshops, and camps.
- Coordinate scheduling and use of facilities for Education events and programming.
- Prepare materials and resources for camps, classes, and workshops, ensuring all logistical needs are met.
- Help facilitate workshops and events, providing support to teaching artists and participants.
- Help organize Education-related events (both on and off-site) by providing on-the-ground support OTD (managing setup, breakdown, flow, greeting guests, etc.)
- Teaching required within academy classes and camps based on interests and experience.
- Assist with line producing ASF’s Shakespeare in the Schools Initiative: The Fall Festival of Shakespeare.
- Serve as a representative of the theater at ASF, community or civic functions, as well as local and national educational theatre conferences.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain records of program attendance, evaluations, and participant feedback to improve logistics in our programming.
- Maintain guidebook of class and camp schedules, logistics, policies, procedures, etc.
- Manage logistics, communication, and outreach efforts for Education initiatives.
- Support the management of program budgets and supplies (including tracking receipts and expenditures).
- Assist with designing and contributing key content for SchoolFest study guides, ensuring deadlines are met for each title in the SchoolFest season.
- Assist with leading SchoolFest pre/post-show curtain speeches and talkbacks (including being available to greet schools and teacher before and after the performance).
- Track and manage Teaching Artist Database to stay abreast of potential teaching artists.
- Serve as additional point of contact for inquiries related to Education Programs and events.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure seamless program execution and participant experience.
- Collaborate with marketing staff to promote educational initiatives through various channels, providing relevant Education assets to Marketing as needed.
Professional Development:
- Stay informed about current trends in industry theatre, arts education, and best pedagogical/teaching practices to support innovative program development.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills in education and arts administration.
- Attend and participate in local and national theatre conferences build relationships with other teaching artists and theatremakers in the industry.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Theatre, Arts Administration, or a related field preferred; relevant practical teaching artist experience may be considered.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a sincere passion for working with diverse audiences, particularly children and families.
- Working knowledge of theatre and a love for the arts; experience in arts education is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, OneDrive, etc.) strongly preferred.
Work Environment:
The Education Programs Manager will work in a collaborative, creative environment, supporting various educational initiatives at ASF. Some evening and weekend hours may be required for events and programs.
