Biography
A deviser, actor, director, dramaturg, and playwright whose work has been seen in the UK, Hungary, and across the United States, Jen Plants makes site-specific theatrical events designed to reach new audiences in unexpected places. Jen is the program director for the Interdisciplinary Theatre Studies MA/PhD at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where her teaching and research interests include contemporary American theatre-making practices, plays and performances about climate change and environmental justice, the art and craft of hospitality, dramaturgy, and playwriting. Recent credits include direction/dramaturgy for Miss American Pie (a world premiere performed in Plants’ own kitchen as part of HouseWork, an ongoing project to stage a play in every room of her home) and her gender-queer feminist adaptation of Lysistrata, which premiered as the 50th anniversary production of Madison, Wisconsin’s Broom Street Theatre.
