Biography
Keenan Shionalyn is a dramaturg, theatre historian, and independent scholar residing in the Northeastern United States. His is currently in the process of translating and serving as the dramaturg for the world premiere of Mikhail Kuzmin's The Death of Nero, premiering in Salt Lake City, UT with Three Penny Theatre. He is in the final stage of his Ph.D. in Drama and Theatre Studies at the University of Birmingham (UK). His research examines the dramatic works of St. Petersburg artist Mikhail Kuzmin and in general, queer modernist theatre. His work is interdisciplinary, incorporating Arts and Humanities areas such as Theatre History, Gender and Sexuality, Russian Area Studies, Translation, and Practice-Based-Research. Keenan received his M.A. in Theatre Studies from Central Washington University and a M.S.F.S. in Forensic Psychology from Southern Utah University. His work has been presented at the American Society for Theatre Research, Association for Theatre in Higher Education, the UK Practice Research Network, and the Southwest Popular/American Culture Association. Keenan is the artistic co-director of Balagan Pigeon Theatre, dedicated to exploring underrepresented works through a queer feminist lens.
