Biography
My name is Mthimkhulu and I’m a born and raised Bantu of MaXhosa, Mpondomise and MaHlubi ethnicity. As a Fine Art Specialist (Thespian, Composer, Vocalist and Producer) my original work addresses the dynamics of economics & power in relation to matters of culture, immigration, business structures & crimes committed against Afro-Centrism. For the past decade, I have examined works by global militant visionaries (mostly in the black diaspora and venture capitalist arenas) who have used practical idealism to create problem solving entities with culturally resonant solutions.
I am particularly drawn to four factors of your work 1)the LMDA’s commitment to dramaturgy’s ability to work across multiple disciplines. 2) your history (starting from the mention of uMkhulu’Desmond Tutu) and how your departments continue to evolve as a reflection of the times. 3) Your flexible programming and belief in the arts as a catalyst for stories that reflect our diverse globe, and lastly, your mission statement. All these values directly align with my own creative practice.
As a former Production Lead with Mighty Lamb, I oversaw more than 380+ live shows and managed upwards of 1600 musicians between 2021 and mid-2025. Working across expanding markets - including Paris, Barcelona, Chicago, Amsterdam and multiple venues in New York City, the company showcased an average of 4 shows a week during my time there. I developed a strong capacity for line producing across diverse formats. This work required logistical precision and emotional intelligence: liaising between artists and stakeholders, shaping cohesive programming that resonates deeply with audiences and resolving conflicts. This experience as a production lead, A&R & event host has given me exceptional confidence in public speaking and presenting clear information to diverse audiences. My fluency in five languages allow me to welcome people from varied backgrounds with warmth and professionalism. My work at Mighty Lamb led to an offer from the GM of the Paramount in Times Square, opting to use my producing and impresario skills to help cement their strategy for their 2026 Spring/Summer programming, I am truly thankful for this offer as it affirmed my ability to contribute both operationally and strategically at an institutional level.
My approach to building artist centered ecosystems involves my ability to be resourceful: I thrive on attention to detail, reviewing large and highly detailed information efficiently and communicate clearly across departments to ensure alignment at every stage of production. I am equally focused on long-term artistic growth: I am willing to develop pipelines which invite aligned artists(Dance,Performance and visual art) into the LMDA and fostering relationships that extend to volunteering, memberships, individual giving and future programming. People's engagement is central to my work. It’ll be my pleasure to freely leverage my and fellow influential artists' social media presence to increase visibility and sustained engagement. I believe pairing digital outreach with thoughtful “on the ground” programming can be easily executed as an additional form of fostering personable relationships and attracting trustworthy partners. My ground force work is complemented by my background in community activism: as a former Community Representative Council member in the Nelson Mandela Bay district, I developed strong diplomatic communication skills and extensive experience working across diverse constituencies, from artists to patrons, creative students to housing associations on campus students and event organizers to public stakeholders. In addition, my work as a column and proposal writer has strengthened my ability to articulate vision with clarity and impact. My writing has received strong peer reviewed feedback from directors within cultural institutions and the agricultural sector, reinforcing my capacity to produce compelling presentations and strategic documents essential to a Museum and Institutional Partnerships role.
Currently at Perelman Arts Center, where I recently serve as a wine consultant within the restaurant space. I have built strong internal relationships across the development, artistic and producing departments, enabling me to gain an understanding of the organization’s ecosystem and the individual dramaturg who work within the space. I remain deeply connected to the creative arena. My academic background in Tourism and PPE alongside my time with the Nelson Mandela University Choir further shaped my understanding of performance as a vehicle for art as an institution, carried by partnership - a principle that continues to guide my approach to the diligence required for maneuvering in the contemporary art space.
In New York City, I have led team operations, directed Michelin recommended spades, drove the staff hiring/restructuring and training processes within the competitive hospitality sector. Those skills informed my activity within art sales spaces while also driving B2B partnerships and coordinating creative projects. At Printed Matter, I led collaborative product initiatives (A Publication piece of art on Contemporary Dance) which increased daily sales by 4.9%. My teamwork with Dashwood Books secured a two year partnership that expanded into international collaboration requests with art dealers in South Africa and Senegal. Across all of these intense/fast paced experiences, I have maintained a strong commitment to timelines, ad hoc committee discussions and quality of art - all while ensuring my clients demands are to exacting standards and beyond.
In closing, I confidently confirm the depths of my ambition. My creative solutions keep me up at night and in the current state of national/international affairs, I often have trouble channeling my goals. However, my epistemic curiosity keeps me warm when creating art and collaborating with NPO’s like LMDA and others dedicated to pushing boundaries.
