Biography
Jane Barnette, a Dramaturg teaching in the Department of Theatre & Dance at the University of Kansas, is a theatre historian who does archival research on train culture and American pageantry. She has published reviews and articles in Theatre Journal, Theatre Symposium, Review, and TPQ. A passionate advocate for adaptation dramaturgy as well as space- and place-based dramaturgical thinking, Barnette does freelance dramaturgy as her schedule allows. A selection of projects includes the development of *Mami Confessions*, Lorraine Reyes's award-winning one-woman show about motherhood; *Fun Home the Musical*, directed by Lisa Rothe at KC Rep; McCraney's *Marcus; or the Secret of Sweet*, directed by Karen Robinson at Actor's Express in Atlanta; George Brant's *Elephant's Graveyard* at Auburn University, directed by Chase Bringardner; and Georgia Shakespeare's original adaptation *The Odyssey: A Journey Home*, directed by Richard Garner. In 2013-14, Barnette partnered with Michael Haverty (of The Object Group) to co-create and co-direct their original adaptation of *The Red Badge of Courage* by Stephen Crane, produced at KSU as well as 7 Stages in Atlanta, before guest-directing *Red Badge of Courage* at Auburn University in March 2015.
