Biography
Karen Diaz de Regules is a Mexican artist and academic. Allegedly, they began their involvement in Theatre and music in their formative years. In 2016, they earned a Certificate of French, level B1. They had multiple singing presentations at their High School and independent performances at the Cultural Center Ollin Yoliztli. They also participated in the productions of *Hairspray, Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat* and *Halloween Special* with Britt Studio.

In 2018, they graduated Salutatorian from Peterson High School in Mexico City and enrolled in San Diego State University for their B.A. in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in performance and a Minor in Arts. They were involved with the International Student Center, and the School of Theatre, Television and Film at San Diego State as a volunteer. Their second year, they worked as a Resident Advisor and a Front Desk Assistant. In 2019, they won 1st place award for the International Student Center Writing Contest.

After the pandemic, many struggles and experiences, they changed their emphasis from performance to General Theatre, and their Arts Minor to Creative Writing. They began working as a Writing Mentor with first and second year college students for the department of Rhetoric and Writing Studies. They participated as patient actor for the Arts Alive program in conjunction with the School of Social Work, as well as actor for the productions of *Just Like Us*, Playwright’s Project: *Beyond Prison Walls*, and a stage reading for *Real Women have Curves.*

They later had a staged reading for their first experimental piece *The Morning Buzz*, and an unofficial stage reading with their family for a traditional *Pastorela*. When classes resumed in person, they added a Minor in Humanities and a Certificate in Leadership. They wore multiple hats for various projects at San Diego State University like light and scenic rigger, audio operator, costume designer, scenic designer, director, props assistant, stagehand and dramaturg. Their artistic endeavors relating to painting and illustration remained as a hobby, publishing some short stories with illustrations on Youtube.

They graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Arts And Sciences, a Minor in Creative Writing, a Minor in Humanities and Summa Cum Laude honors. They began their Optional Practical Training (OPT) experience with Turnkey Theatre, working as Administrative and Arts associate. They resubmitted their short stories to the company’s channel with new editing. They also worked as Illustrator, Script Consultant and Stage Manager for *Iris And the Axe,* as well as Illustrator for *Homecoming*. In August of the same year they began working as Box Office Manager at Moxie Theatre. While Turnkey Theatre closed at the end of 2022, they continued their position at MOXIE until the end of their OPT period.

They returned to Mexico for a short time, where they acquired a Certificate of Completion in Coding Foundations. Soon after they returned to the United States, where they began classes for their Master of Arts at San Diego State University. They began their research on Gothic Theatre and presented their findings at the Student Symposium “’Now By My Injuries Old Man’ A Dramatic Presentation In 5 Acts As Altered For The SDSU Symposium”. During this time they worked as Graduate Assistant for multiple Theatre and Television, Film and New Media classes, and returned to their position as a Writing Mentor. They found their love for dramaturgy, working as an assistant Dramaturg for *Mr. Burns* and Lead Dramaturg for *Six Characters In Search Of An Author*. They presented for the Student symposium the following year, this time focusing on Queer works “Musical Theatre As Means To Queer Thriving”. They currently hold a 4.0 average and are working on their culminative project *Undone ,* an experimental musical about connection, with an expected graduation date of December 2025.
