The Department of Music, Multimedia, Theatre, and Dance (MMTD) at Lehman College (CUNY) seeks a Lecturer (Doctoral Schedule) to teach undergraduate and graduate Music majors and non-majors. Courses include Musicianship I and II, Theory I–IV, Introduction to Music, and Fundamentals of Music. The candidate will also contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration and departmental service.

We seek candidates with a demonstrated potential for continued creative activity, excellence in classroom teaching, and service to the college. Pedagogical flexibility, a commitment to creative practice, and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary, student-centered environment are highly desired — especially in mentoring students from underrepresented communities.

The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Music and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Applied Music and Music Teaching, as well as minors and an advanced certificate in Applied Music and Music Teaching.

The title of Lecturer is a tenure-bearing position (certificate of continuous employment) for full-time faculty hired to teach and perform faculty duties without a research requirement. Lecturers at CUNY have an annual workload of 24 hours.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D., D.M.A., or Ed.D. in music or related field
  • Experience teaching university-level music theory, history, or interdisciplinary studies
  • Established record of excellence in teaching
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and administration
  • Preferred: Ability to teach jazz performance, piano, composition, form and analysis, music history (Western and Non-Western), and music pedagogy

Compensation

  • Salary: $88,998
  • Commensurate with experience and education
  • Includes full benefits: health insurance, retirement plans, paid parental leave, and savings programs
  • Salary determined by PSC-CUNY salary schedules (2023–2027)
