Overview
The Communications & Marketing Manager works closely with the Director of External Relations to create and implement marketing and communications strategies in support of the O’Neill’s mission and overall operations. This role will work in conjunction with the Marketing Associate and external consultants on the creation of materials and campaigns to promote and publicize the O’Neill, while also successfully contributing to annual earned revenue goals. This position will also oversee press relations across all O’Neill programs.
This is an exempt full-time position with an annual salary range of $50,000 – $55,000 and a hybrid schedule with nights and weekends as needed.

From its campus in Waterford, Connecticut, the O’Neill has been home to more than 1,000 new works for the stage and thousands more emerging artists. Blue Gene’s Pub sits in the center of the campus and acts as the space of gathering for playwrights, artists, staff, and community members.

Principal Duties
- Create, implement, and manage overall marketing and communications calendar for all O’Neill programming, including all elements of marketing, fundraising, and education programming
- Provide high-level institutional content management and oversight across various platforms and channels
- Create, implement, and manage department budgets, proactively flexing resources to ensure that they are allocated appropriately throughout the year
- Oversee design and timely creation of marketing collateral for all O’Neill programming, including professional programming, fundraising events, education programs, Blue Gene’s Pub, and Gene’s General Store
- Create, implement, and manage individual marketing campaigns, including calls for submissions/applications, special events, summer season marketing, etc.
- Coordinate press releases and media outreach in partnership with external press agent to promote the O’Neill to local and national outlets
- Oversee ticketing set up and sales in PatronPortal (Salesforce), ensure data reliability, and track sales goals
- Other duties as assigned
Experience
Qualified candidates will have at least 4+ years of relevant professional experience in a non-profit marketing and communications shop. Must exhibit a strong commitment to theater and the arts.
Skills and Attributes
- Cool under pressure, with an ability to manage tight timelines, deadlines, and budgets to a quality standard in a fast-paced environment.
- Leverage best practice media opportunities and other channels to promote the O’Neill at a high level
- Eye for design (a familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and/or InDesign a plus)
- Strong writer with acute attention to detail
- Team player with ability to brainstorm and engage in meaningful dialogue with colleagues across the department and the organization
- Supervisory and/or management experience preferred.
- Confident and poised – ability to engage professionally with external stakeholders in the media, with board members, and with executive staff
- A customer-service oriented mindset
- Comfortable working with databases (Salesforce/PatronManager a plus)
