2024 LMDA Digital Conference Call For Proposals

The 2024 LMDA Digital Conference will take place from February 1-3, 2024.

Inspired by Kansas City Repertory Theatre’s “American Crossroads” Residency Program, the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas 2024 Conference (in-person and digital) theme is Dramaturgy Crossroads.

This year’s conference will focus on “crossroads” that all artists committing acts of dramaturgy find themselves facing today. We are looking for explorations of necessary changes in the field at large, transitions from education to the professional realm, shepherding the legacy of key figures as they pass the torch to the next generation, and all possible intersections of art in the spaces we inhabit. We invite all artists to look for inspiration from this year’s in-person conference host, Kansas City Repertory Theatre.

KC Rep’s programming is inspiring in its unwavering commitment to new works and playwrights, accessibility, equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism. KC Rep’s relationship with the University of Missouri, Kansas City (UMKC) provides the impetus to explore the ties between professional and educational institutions and to better understand the pathways that bring artists and communities together. This means to serve as a jumping off point for inspiration, but is by no means required for your proposal. We hope to feature offerings from academics, institutional leaders, freelance practitioners, and artists with a wide array of affiliations. We encourage all interested presenters to meditate on the idea of Dramaturgy Crossroads and share how it applies to your proposed conference session.

You will have the opportunity to create either asynchronous content–which will be hosted on LMDA’s website, available for conference attendees on the first day– or a live digital session for the synchronous conference days on February 2-3, 2024. Proposals should consist of a brief abstract (200 words max.), include information about format (case study, panel, etc), anticipated length, number of speakers, and any technological needs you may have. If there are any accessibility needs, please share those as well–we are happy to accommodate.

Proposals are due by December 21, 2023. We will send notifications by January 7, 2024.

Please be aware that this fully digital portion of the conference is decoupled from the in-person conference. The in-person conference will take place June 27-29, 2024. If you want to submit for the in-person conference, there is a separate submission form.
