Biography
Ana Candida Carneiro (PhD) is a multilingual award-winning and published playwright, director, and educator. She grew up in Brazil and lived fifteen years in Italy, before immigrating to the USA in 2015. As founder and artistic director of the Babel Theater Project , Ana writes, directs and produces work that aims at generating social and aesthetic change at the crossroads of languages, cultures and disciplines. As a scholar, she has contributed to Routledge edited volumes focusing on Theatre & Migration, Latinx Theater, and Theatre and Racial Justice. She is currently writing The Global Playwriting Workbook (Methuen Drama, forthcoming 2025), which focuses on teaching playwriting across cultures. She is currently the head of the MFA in Playwriting program, she at Indiana University Bloomington, where she is also affiliated faculty to the Center for Research on Race & Ethnicity in Society (CRRES), the Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies (CLACS), and the Cultural Studies graduate program.
