Biography
Ellen Valencia is a New Jersey based Dramaturg and University Lecturer who has also worked as a director and producer. Ellen has an MFA in Dramaturgy from Columbia University and a BA in Theatre Arts and Africana Studies from Rutgers University. She has served as the Dramaturg at Crossroads Theatre Company (Genesis Festival) State Theatre New Jersey and Creede Repertory Theatre. Ellen has served on the Jury Selection Committees at Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, the Signature Theatre Launchpad Series, and the Black Motherhood & Parenting – A New Play Festival (Produced in partnership by Oregon Shakespeare Festival & Blackboard Plays). Ellen has been featured as the Producing Artistic Director of Hub City Theatre Festival in New Brunswick, New Jersey where she also directed an excerpt from “To Be Young Gifted and Black”. She has been on the directing team at the Tony Award® winning Crossroads Theatre Company for “Beyond the Oak Trees”, “Holiday Jubilee”, and Walter Moseley’s “Breathe”, a workshop. At Crossroads she also served as a producing associate for Rohina Malik’s “Mecca Tales”. Ellen has also worked in Artistic Engagement at the Tony Award® winning McCarter Theatre Center.
