Biography
Emma Joy Hill is a playwright, performer, dramaturg, and theatre artist whose work bridges performance, advocacy, and community engagement. Her plays have been developed and produced across the country, often centering questions of human rights, sexual violence, and collective memory through a lens that blends grotesque theatricality with grounded storytelling. She was a Semi-Finalist for both The O’Neill’s National Playwrights Conference and Yale’s MFA Playwriting Program in 2024, and she was previously accepted to Columbia University’s MFA Playwriting Program.
Her work has been supported by organizations including the Bushwick Starr, the Foundation of the Arts, and the Natural Resources Conservation Academy, with past collaborations ranging from 59E59, Echo Theatre Dallas, and Women’s Theatre Festival, to international partnerships with Out of Chaos Theatre (UK).
Emma currently serves as Interim Director of Marketing + Communications at Long Wharf Theatre, where she brings a dramaturgical eye to community-centered campaigns, audience engagement, and storytelling strategy. She also teaches Playwriting at Southern Connecticut State University. Across her creative and professional work, Emma is driven by a belief in the power of theatre as a vehicle for change.
