Biography
Emilia LaPenta is Director of Creative Development (Theater) at Audible, where she leads the Emerging Playwrights Fund. To date, the Fund has commissioned 50 projects from the US, UK, and Berlin and released 30 commissioned plays on Audible.com. Select executive producer/producer credits include Evil Eye by Madhuri Shekar (2020 Audie Award, Best Original Work; 2020 Gracie Award, Standalone Audio Drama; Amazon Prime feature film adaption); The Half-Life of Marie Curie by Lauren Gunderson, starring Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany; Proof of Love by Chisa Hutchinson; Nevada-Tan by Leah Nanako Winkler; The 126-Year-Old Artist by CQ; The Comedians by Philip Dawkins; The Podcaster by Christopher Chen; and Dirty Laundry by Mathilde Dratwa (part of the 24-25 season at WP in NYC). Director/producer credits include Islanders by Elinor Cook, starring Daisy Ridley; and Life Ever After by Carla Grauls, starring Nana Mensah and Raúl Castillo. Also at Audible, Emilia produced the audio versions of David Henry Hwang's Yellow Face, John Lithgow’s Stories by Heart, John Leguizamo’s Latin History for Morons, and Sharon Washington’s Feeding the Dragon. Previously, Emilia was the Literary Director at McCarter Theatre and the Producing Director of #theaternow, a collaboration with director/multimedia artist Tommy Butler devoted to offering creative leadership opportunities to early career artists.
