Carina Gaspar holds a Master’s degree from York University in Theatre Studies, with a strong focus on physical theatre and its dramaturgical practices. She was named one of the recipients of the LMDA 2014 Residency Grant for her exploration into the Manitoulin Conservatory for Performance and Creation. She also worked at Pat the Dog Theatre Creation as a dramaturg for two years, overseeing 200+ playwright members.
Carina also functioned as the Dramaturgical and New Play Development intern at Nightwood Theatre, Assistant Dramaturg on Frankenstein’s Ghosts with Blue Rider Ensemble, and co-facilitated the annual PlaySmelter reading series in Northern Ontario.
As an actor, she’s trained with Lecoq masters Theatre Smith-Gilmour and Leah Cherniak, and also John Turner of the clown duo ‘Mump and Smoot’. Currently, she is developing her first full-length clown show, Denmarked, for the 2016 Toronto Fringe Festival.
As an academic and practitioner, she brings a unique combination of skills to the table that encompasses both text-based and physical theatre dramaturgical templates.
