Denver Center for the Performing Arts
Denver, CO
July 7-10, 2011
The conference theme—The Dramaturg as Public Artist—challenged us to use the skills we already
have to imagine a truly "public" role for ourselves. How can we connect our work to the broader public
discourse? How can we act as liaisons between theatre and the culture at large? How can we position
our work within the larger marketplace of ideas?
Conference-goers explored the cultural possibilities of Denver's public art spaces, engaged in
workshops with some of Denver's most exciting theatre ensembles, and heard a keynote speech from
Adam Lerner (head of Denver's Museum of Contemporary Art). Plus: the Open Space format was back!
One day was given over to attendee-generated sessions.
We planned a stimulating, engaging, and informed conference for LMDA’ers of all professional levels
and interests.
