2024 LMDA In-Person Conference Call For Proposals

The Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas will convene around the theme of Dramaturgy Crossroads from June 27-29, 2024, inspired by Kansas City Repertory’s American Crossroads Residency Program.
Our host city, Kansas City, MO provides the perfect backdrop for this conference since it is known for being a cultural and historical crossroads of its own. Before European settlers arrived, the region was home to various Indigenous tribes, including the Osage and Kansa (Kaw). In the early 19th century, it was a hub for westward expansion and trade. During the 1920s and 1930s, Kansas City became a major epicenter for jazz, gaining national prominence for its vibrant jazz scene and nightlife. Kansas City has long been a crossroads of culture, music and artistry.
The American Theatre landscape is at a pivotal crossroads today. Artists are asking for accountability and transparency in the areas of diversity, equity and accessibility. There are important conversations needed to address inclusion and belonging in theatre, both nationally and across the globe. The 2024 LMDA conference will cultivate a space for the intersection of cultures, identities, abilities,and generations. What we do today will shape the trajectory of dramatic arts. We are asking theatre artists of all backgrounds, experience levels and disciplines to be part of the ongoing discourse.
We are looking for explorations of any and all ideas that stem from the theme of Dramaturgy Crossroads, or other topics related to dramaturgical and literary management practice. Proposals should consist of a brief abstract (no more than 200 words), category (listed below), all involved participants, and any technological and accessibility needs you may have.

Applications are due Friday, February 16, 2024. Members of the LMDA Conference Planning Committee will review and respond to all applications.
Please be aware that this in-person portion of the conference is decoupled from the digital conference. The digital conference will take place February 1-3.
