Hi! My name is Mary Eliza Hendricks. I label myself as a theatre artist, because of the variety of roles I have filled, and the variety I wish to continue to play. I grew up in Chattanooga, TN, and went to college at Emory and Henry University near Abingdon, VA. Theatre has been my passion since my first show at age 7, Oliver!. Acting through my entire childhood, I realized in college that I wanted to be able to do more with theatre than just play the part assigned to me. This is when I first began my journey into directing, choreography, and dramaturgy. I believe dramaturgy is the foundation of both directing and choreography, and my processes reflect that. I also have fallen in love with devised work, community engagement, and using casting as a means of innovation and revolution. Social issues are very important to me, and using theatre to make a difference in women's rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and the rights of people with disabilities. I also have a cat and his name is Cosmic Creepers and I love him very much, and I do a lot of painting and art on the weekends.
