Laura MacDonald is a dramaturg and theatre historian based at Michigan State University and specializing in musical theatre. In 2012 she established the Musicalturgy new musical development collaboration, matching undergraduate dramaturgs in the Netherlands, UK and USA with musical theatre writers and composers. This project has supported the development of more than 50 new musicals to date. Her research on long-running musicals, new musical development, and musical theatre industries in Europe and East Asia has been published in a range of books and journals. As part of her research she regularly engages with writers, composers, directors and producers in the US, Europe and East Asia. Her recent dramaturgy credits at Michigan State include productions of INTO THE WOODS and HEAD OVER HEELS. She holds an MA in Drama from the University of Toronto and a PhD in American Studies from the University of East Anglia.
