Freelance Dramaturg / Coach
Biography
Juliet creates and collaborates on initiatives supporting artist development and long-term wellbeing. She has over 25 years of performance-making experience as a lighting designer, production manager, creative producer and dramaturg. Currently based in Singapore, she freelances as a dramaturg, consultant and coach for creative professionals.
Early in her career as a lighting designer, Juliet worked with Target Margin Theatre, La MaMa, Kristin Marting, Alex Timbers, Taylor Mac, and Young Jean Lee. She was a member of the HERE Artist Residency Program and a recipient of the Allen Lee Hughes Fellowship and the US NEA/TCG Career Development Program for Designers. Later on, she moved into management and leadership positions at international arts institutions such as Glimmerglass Opera, the Guggenheim Museum, Singapore Arts Festival, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, and Singapore Repertory Theatre, where she held the position of Deputy Artistic Director.
Drawing on this multifaceted background, Juliet brings a blend of artistic and producing perspectives to her practice as a dramaturg. Her interests lie in new work development as well as the application of dramaturgical thinking in the work of arts administrators, producers and organisations. She is known for the deep care and critical attention she brings to the creative process, whether it’s supporting a specific project or an artist’s practice over time. As Consultant Dramaturg for Centre 42, she programmes talks, workshops and courses that promote dramaturgy in Singapore. She also reads and consults for the New Scripts Garage and Wild Rice's Unsolicited Scripts programme as well as the international Digital Development Programme.
Apart from her dramaturgical work, Juliet mentors and trains aspiring producers in Singapore. She created the Meet-a-PC initiative in partnership with The Backstage Affair to offer monthly pro-bono consultations for artists needing production advice. For emerging producers wanting individual mentoring, she designs Personalised Producer Tutorials. Producing for the Stage is her most recent training programme created in collaboration with The Public Space.
Juliet also supports the lives, businesses and overall well-being of artists through her work as an Associate Certified Coach accredited by the International Coaching Federation. In the creative sector, where workers are often overstretched and under-resourced, she believes coaching can help artists nourish their passion and energy in the face of what can often feel like an uphill struggle. She advocates for making coaching available and accessible to all creative professionals no matter their position or status.
