Biography
Davide Cioffrese is a PhD doctor in Sciences of the Literary and Musical Text and Research Fellow at the University of Pavia, an institution for which he currently serves as Adjunct Professor in Directing and Playwriting in Contemporary Theatre (Department of Human Studies) and History of Theatre (Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage, Cremona). His main research interest is the Dramaturg: a theatre role he has investigated both in Italy and abroad. On the subject he has published a volume, "The Dramaturg in Italy. A historical anomaly, between Europe and the United States" (Mimesis 2023) and several articles ("Of Research and Dramaturgs: Nightswimming Theatre’s ‘Pure Research’ Project", 2019; Ontroerend Goed. "Dramaturging the Performance of the Unsettling in Contemporary Theatre", 2021; "Theatre, a 'traversable tragedy'. Writings and roles of the dramaturg within Social and Community Theatre", pending publication, 2024); he has also dabbled in the field of contemporary Italian playwrighting and theatre-making ("Before 'Lehman Trilogy': Stefano Massini between commitment, poetry, doubt and the divine", 2018; "Marco Paolini’s 'Tale of the Vajont'. A close tragedy, between tragic and anti-tragic", 2021). He has curated informative meetings on various plays staged by the Civic Theatre of Tortona (Alessandria) in the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 theatre seasons and moderated several meetings with actors and artists included in the 2023-2024 season of Pavia’s Fraschini Theatre. He's acting as dramaturg-in-training in the context of the Useful Theatre workshop organized by Milan's Accademia dei Filodrammatici.
