Biography
I originally expressed my love of literature through reading books.
Although I wrote my B.A. thesis on Brian Friel's play Translations (comparing it to Homer's Odyssey and Vergil's Aeneid), I treated Friel's play largely as a text, rather than as a script. It wasn't until I began my Ph.D. program in Literature (Shakespeare) that I took up dramaturgy—and then I didn't want stop! While working toward my Ph.D., I served as the dramaturg for four consecutive years for a university troupe, Shakespeare To Go, and for eight consecutive years as a dramaturg for the professional theatre company Santa Cruz Shakespeare. I am also a fiction writer, and I like to think that I bring an artist's sensibility to my work as a dramaturg.
