Biography
Richard is a specialist in contemporary theatre and performance. Recent plays he’s directed and/or dramaturged include: Four newly commissioned short plays on the subject of social media entitled Truth and Lies; The Canadian premiere of Lampedusa by Andres Lustgarten; At the Speed of Light by Peter Dickinson (a new audio drama), Dance Like Nobody's Watching by Munish Sharma (a new site-specific public happening) The Canadian Premiere of Hir by Taylor Mac and the Canadian premiere of The Events by David Greig.
Richard has received several Jessie-nominations for outstanding professional work in Vancouver, including 6 nominations for Outstanding Director and one for Significant Artistic Achievement. He has received the John Moffat and Larry Lillo Award, the Ray Michel Award and has twice received the Jessie Award for Outstanding Director. He is a past president of LMDA Canada, and a member of Lincoln Centre’s Directors Lab. Richard earned his MFA from UBC. He’s been the artistic director of Pi Theatre for the past 12 years.
