NPX Recommend-a-thon: December 2023

Our second Recommend-a-Thon was small, but mighty! With such a small group, we made space for some conversation and then some working sessions. Gwydion Suilebhan again inspired the group, noting that NPX is celebrating 9 years since its launch, and over 10+ years of thinking about it! He shared that a relaunch is coming soon, which will offer some new features, including the capacity to designate multiple authors for one script, an overhaul of the Opportunities Module, and enhancements to the Reader Pro accounts, which should help dramaturgs better represent and promote their work on the site. Gwydion also shared that, when NPX began, they thought of it primarily as a repository for new work. However, that vision has expanded, as it became clear that NPX is a shared resource for connection, an avid community of generosity, kindness, and support. It is also a site where we might reimagine the US theatrical language, to begin building an ecosystem that values equity, respect, and meaningful representation.

Several reviews were written, including:

  • Makasha Copeland, Extreme Home Makeover
  • Kristoffer Diaz, Things With Friends
  • Cole Hunter Dzubak, Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter Here
  • Madison Fiedler, Spay
  • JuCoby Johnson, 5
  • Alicia Margarita Olivo, Flood
  • Dave Osmundsen, Let Me Know If I Hurt You
  • Janine Sobeck Knighton, Hidden Seashells: A Yoga Adventure
  • Matt Schutz, Into the Sky
  • David Templeton, Galatea
  • Yussef El Guindi, Hotter than Egypt,
  • DeAnna Toten Beard, Mount Abundance
  • Nora Louise Syran, Our Fake History
  • Straton Rushing, Happy Wright

As we signed off, participants shared a one-word summary of their experience: gratitude, renewal, organized (aspirational more than realized, but still), energized (with a dash of chagrin and repentance), productive, connective, and reinvigorated.

Save the date for our Spring Session: Thursday, March 21, 2024. Time TBD!
