Biography
Emily DeDakis is a dramaturg, writer and producer from the southeast U.S., based in Belfast, Ireland since 2005. She’s developed dozens of scripts and performances – including immersive, 24-hour, multimedia, community, devised, verbatim and dance theatre – with Accidental, Terra Nova, OfftheRails and Prime Cut (Belfast), Scene+Heard (Dublin) and foolsFURY (San Francisco), among others.

New-play dramaturgy credits include Fast & Loose: Theatre for the Chronically Impatient (2007-‘17), The Kitchen, the Bedroom & the Grave (2014 – winner of a Stewart Parker Trust award), Arrivals: Intercultural Plays (2014-’17) The Lost Martini (2015), Gordon Osràm’s Funeral (2016), Please (2017), and Toilet Opera (2018 & '23). She is an associate artist with Fighting Words NI, coordinating and mentoring the Young Playwrights programme (2020-present). Emily has received two dramaturgy fellowships from the BBC Performing Arts Fund, and taught playwriting at Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University.

Emily’s writing has been broadcast on BBC radio and TV. A member of Belfast’s experimental choir HIVE, she often collaborates with sonic artists on multimedia pieces, such as F R E A K FLOODS (with Úna Monaghan), Driving Music (with Una Lee) and Stowaway City (with Michael McKnight).
