Director of Artistic Development, Second Stage Theater

Second Stage Theater seeks a Director of Artistic Development Responsible for internal artistic workflow and identifying and developing artistic product for the institution

Specification of Responsibility and Authority: 

Identify and propose plays for production in all venues of institution.

Identify and cultivate projects through developmental work to expand institutional pipeline needs and/or foster relationships with artists.

Project coordination for work in development including casting coordination and other facilitation as required.

Organize and manage play commissioning program.

Cover readings, workshops, productions and festivals, in NYC and regionally.

Facilitate writer/director talkbacks for events when required.

Serve as artist liaison for company-wide artistic events.

Provide artistic content for marketing materials and grant proposals as needed.

Provide production coverage for the Artistic Director and Associate Artistic Director when necessary.

Coordinate activities of Artistic Committee including defining agenda and priorities for committee, creation of materials for discussion, and distribution of meeting minutes.

Reports to the Artistic Producer

Work closely with the Artistic Director

Manage literary intern(s)

Assist in management of Artistic Fellow

Assist playwrights and directors on work in development

Establish and maintain relationships with artists and peers in industry Work with 2ST commissioned writers

Measure of Accountability: 

Accountable to Artistic Producer for management and execution of all above responsibilities and functions
