LMDA Seeks Grant Coordinator

Background and Current Environment

LMDA is largely a volunteer-based organization, with committee and board members working in collaboration to ideate new programming and initiatives.

The Grants Coordinator position was implemented in 2018, with the intention that the person serving in this role would help develop cohesive, clear, and comprehensive grant applications to support LMDA’s major programs. Previous grants secured include the National Endowment for the Arts ArtsWork grant, and funds from the Dreyfuss Foundation, among others.

We envision that the person taking over this role would continue to support this work, while taking part in conversations about the future of institutional funding at LMDA.

Duties

The Grants Coordinator reports to the LMDA Treasurer and supports the fundraising work of the Administrative Director, President, and Board of Directors. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure portal access is maintained for all government grants

  • Assess eligibility for grants

  • Propose new grant strategies for operations

  • Manage government and foundation grant submissions for LMDA: schedule, manage technical upload, integrate in budget, follow up on results

  • Submit LMDA’s annual NEA grant application

  • Research and advise on additional opportunities for government, foundation, and corporate application opportunities and eligibility

  • Uphold the current tracking system for grant application management, including deadlines, passwords, delegated and completed tasks, and feedback from grantors

  • Delegate and coordinate grant writing sections to board, staff, and volunteers

  • Edit and integrate grant components submitted by grants team

  • Update boilerplate company information after each grant submission

  • Assess conference grant and sponsorship potential and recommend strategy

  • Provide an executive summary of the work accomplished and its results by the end of the year via email to the Treasurer

Compensation

The Grants Coordinator will be contracted for $4000 per year, estimated 80 hours at $50/hr.

As an independent contractor, the Grants Coordinator is not entitled to paid vacation or benefits, and is responsible for remitting their own taxes, with a 1099-NEC provided by the organization.

Compensation schedule: $1000 due upon contract signing, $1000 four months after signing, $1000 seven months after signing, $750 on December 1, and $250 upon receipt of completed executive summary in December.

Hours, Location, and Duration

The Grants Coordinator will work a total of 80 hours over the course of the year-long contract. Hours worked per week will depend heavily upon grant applications and deadlines, with particular busy times occurring in late June and early July, due to the submission of the annual NEA grant.

The Grants Coordinator will execute a majority of the work required remotely, including digital meetings with the LMDA Administrative Director and Treasurer.

The duration of the contract shall be from signing through December 31, 2022, with the opportunity to renew at the end of the year, pending successful performance review.

Qualifications and Attributes

The Grants Coordinator may be asked to take part in long-term planning conversations and serve as a resource to identify potential grant sustainability measures. Since this position works closely with people from across the organization, LMDA seeks someone who has most (but not necessarily all) of the following attributes:

  • A working knowledge of LMDA, its programs, mission, vision, and values; although this background is preferred, the Search Committee will evaluate candidates from other industries and disciplines.

  • The skills to develop a collaborative relationship across the organization with the board, staff, membership, and grantors.

  • Prior experience in grant writing and applications

  • Strong self-discipline and personal organization

  • Effective communication skills, both in writing and verbally

  • Experience applying for grants in the United States

  • Ability to legally work and receive pay in the United States

  • Skilled at distilling complex information down into easily digestible, clear formats

  • Familiarity with nonprofit budget processes
